Spending a Month Abroad

If you’re wondering what to do on your next vacation, consider a month abroad. Travel agencies have designed excellent packages for individuals or families who want to spend four fabulous weeks exploring countries of the Middle East, Europe and Africa to name but a few.

So if you decide that this will make for an ideal holiday getaway, there are a few things you’ll need to do to prepare in advance.  Start by making sure you and everyone who’s accompanying you has a valid passport.  Inquire as to whether you’ll need any visas for visiting specific nations.

If you have health insurance, find out if it covers you outside the country or whether you’ll need to obtain a policy that’s apt for international travel.  Talk to your doctors to schedule any vaccinations you may be required to have or to obtain prescriptions for any medications you may need.  Note that if you take prescription medication it’s best you carry it in your hand luggage.

Ask a friend or a neighbor to take care of your bills while you’re gone. You can leave the checks already written out, so he or she can mail them out on time for you.  If at all possible, let the post office know to stop all mail delivery.

Inform your bank of your impending trip and discuss the use of your credit cards.  Note that some of the smaller banks issue credit cards that are only accepted locally or within the country.  Make arrangements to purchase foreign currency and ask how long it will take for the exchange to go through.  If at all possible, wait for a time when the exchange rate is in your favor.

Research the places you intend to visit.  If you’d rather have a travel agency prepare an itinerary, you’ll be more than pleased.  The array of deals they offer these days is simply fantastic.  Look into the holy land tours, a favorite of many.  Many of these include Israel and surrounding countries; or you may opt for those that showcase Israel by itself.

And finally, arrange for a friend or a service to take you the airport, and enjoy your trip.
