Taking a River Cruise Vacation

Are you searching for a different type of vacation?  Then consider taking one of the many river cruise vacations on your next trip.  Here’s what a river cruise vacation can offer you.

Places not normally seen
On a traditional land-based vacation or even on a regular cruise, you might miss out on seeing the hard-to-get places or those places that take too long to travel to.  But with a river cruise, vessels are much smaller than the average cruise ship vessel so that they can navigate the smaller and shallower rivers that transverse the countryside.

Typical river cruises include such varied destinations as the Mississippi River, the Columbia River (Washington state), and the Hudson River (New York).  Other river cruises sail in such hot spots as the Danube and Rhine Rivers through central Europe where you can view quaint European towns up and down its shores.  If Egypt is more to your liking, take one of the many rivers cruises on the famous and ancient Nile River, where you’ll see some of mankind’s greatest creations.  But if Russia is on your mind, don’t fret.  Russian river cruises explore the awe and beauty of Russia like never seen before.

Shore excursions
River cruises, like other cruises, are so much more than just sailing the rivers of the world.  You’ll be able to explore the places that these river cruises sail to just about every day of the voyage.  That means you’ll be able to visit the cities, towns and other areas that you pass through.  On a Hudson River cruise, for example, you’ll be able to visit the various lighthouses that dot the shores.  On a Mississippi River cruise, you’ll be able to tour plantations that line its banks.  If pyramids fascinate you, take a day trip to visit these mysterious sites when cruising on the Nile.  But if the Netherlands call to you, why not explore the quaint and historic towns and harbors that make up this picturesque region?.

Time spent on board
Though a big chunk of time is spent on shore, you’ll still be entertained and catered to onboard just as you would on a regular cruise vessel.  The only difference that you might find on board a river cruise is that there are more educational lectures available.
